ÁLVAREZ YAGÜE, JULIO (Madrid, 1957) lives and works in Madrid
This award winning and self-taught photographer started his career as a prolongation of his professional activity in aerial photography back in the 70s. Co-founder of the Group 28, a photographic movement in Spain that made the social realism its flagship, soon evolved towards a more experimental and abstract photography.
From the beginning of his career Yagüe has developed two parallel lines of work: his photographic series - New York I & II, National II, Geometría (Geometry), Memoria Frágil (Fragile Memory) and a more unconventional study and creation of the still image without camera - early experiments from the 80s & 90s and his series Teide, La Guitarra (The Guitar) and Aliens. Currently, he is working in a new series developed in London, Mi Rostro Mañana (My Face Tomorrow).
Yagüe has exhibited extensively in Spain and internationally, counting more than 150 solo and group exhibitions. Many of his works are part of public and private collections including the National Museum Reina Sofia and Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid and IVAM in Valencia. Besides, he also contributes regularly in specialized publications as well as magazines and is lecturer in the Miguel Hernández University and EFTI School of Photography in Spain.
SOUL, MARTA (Madrid, 1973) lives and works in Madrid
After finishing her studies in Photography and Design, Marta has explored the relationship between picture and reality and how these concepts influence each other. Since 2001 her work talks about identity and sexual roles and the importace of appearances where the truth acquires a superior entity: Sexus (2001), Domestic Esthetic (2003). Her last projects, Chance of Love (2005), Wellhome (2007) and Boys&Cars (2008), raise issues about immigration with a specific consumerist iconography.
Despite her young career and still as an emerging photographer, Marta Soul has been awarded by different Spanish institutions including La Real Sociedad Fotográfica (2003), Injuve (2003), Purificación García (2004 y 2006) and has been granted residencies in organisations with national and international coverage like the Arts Council in Madrid (2005 y 2008), La Caixa FotoPres'07 (2006), Madrid Procesos Redes de AVAM (2007) and Junta de Andalucía Iniciarte (2008).
Her work has been exhibited in main galleries and festivals in Spain and abroad: Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid (2007); Caixa Forum, Barcelona (2007); Bienal de FotoNoviembre, Tenerife (2007); International Festiwal in Lodz, Poland(2007); Espai Visor, Valencia (2007); Photomuseum Winterthur, Switzerland (2008); Pingyao International Photography Festival where she was awarded Best Foreigner Photographer, China (2008); Dom Gallery, Slovakia (2008) and ARCO in Madrid (2008 y 2009).
VALVERDE, PACO (Jaén, 1964) lives and works in Elche, Alicante
Paco graduated from Photography in 1997 in Alicante. Throughout his career, his work has shown a commitment towards the truth and the roots of his surroundings. Paco's first series was El Capricho de lo Cotidiano (Indulgence of the everyday life), where he explores familiar environments. This work was followed by Entropía (Entropy) and Paisaje y Entorno (Landscape and Environment). The latter works being a study of the landscape from an archeological perspective.
Valverde has received several awards from private and public organisms, including a Mention of Honour in 2003 from the prestigious ABC Awards of Photography and Painting (Spain) and a Mention of Honour from Murcia University in 2004 and 2005. His pictures have been part of national and international group exhibitions highlighting: Circulo de Bellas Artes (Madrid, 2004), Cervantes Intitute (Tetouan, 2006), Al Cegira Center (Cairo, 2008) and the recent exhibition No Hay Tal Lugar. Territorio de lo Invisible organised by Valencian Museums Consortium (Alicante, 2009). His work has been acquired by many public institutions in Spain as well as private collections.
